Wine dinner to raise funds for Square Fair

LIMA — Good wine, for a good cause. The third annual Gourmet Wine Dinner presented by Square Fair Inc. is planned for April 1 at Shawnee Country Club. The event will feature wine from Rombauer Vineyards and a gourmet menu from the club’s executive chef, Enzo Sclama.Diane Peterson, president of Square Fair Inc., said the dinner is always successful in raising funds for the downtown festival.“We’re a small town in the midwest, and this is a Chicago-New York-Los Angeles kind of event,” Peterson said. “It just says you don’t have to drive 100 miles to do something fun and exciting. We can do it right here. And the community does support it.”Rombauer Vineyards will be represented by its national sales manager, Alan Cannon, said Square Fair Inc. board member Dick Seitz. Seitz, formerly associated with Diamond Distributing, helped bring California’s Rombauer wines to this area when Koerner Rombauer was just beginning to market his wines.“He hasn’t forgotten who helped him make his wines popular,” Seitz said. “That’s what makes him special and his winery special because he hasn’t forgotten the people and the communities that have helped him along the way.”The menu, which includes dishes like “Vol-au-vent of Shrimp and Scallops,” has been created to complement the wine — and vice versa, Peterson said.“We’ll be tasting some vintages that no one else has even tasted before,” Seitz said.
