A laughing matter
Comments 0 | Recommend 0People should lighten up, learn to leave serious to the serious issues

The New Yorker magazine engages in a clever show of satire on its cover, playing off outlandish claims about Michelle and Barack Obama, and too few people smile. Many of us need to lighten up, need to recognize that when John McCain remarked about his lack of expertise in economic affairs, he was making a joke at his own expense (ordinarily an endearing quality), not confessing in a job interview that he had no idea why he applied for the position.

None of this is an attempt to diminish the challenges and hardships. Rather, the plea is to make room for a little wit, a tonic designed to ease the burden, particularly the psychological one. Look at that New Yorker cover, and laugh at the silly portrayals of the Obamas. Feel liberated enough to get serious about what really matters.
