Lawns shouldn’t be city’s priority
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Councilman Derry Glenn proposes a law to jail people who don't cut their grass and weeds. Why? They already have a law like that. All they have to do is enforce it.
The city can't cut its own weeds, much less enforce the law to make others cut theirs. In the park on St Johns Avenue, they don't make these people cut their weeds. Sure all the places that have buildings on them are cut, but how about the ones that have no buildings? Clean up your own back yard before you start on someone else.
Also, the mayor has promised the people that Global Energy is going to build a plant for the last nine years, but where is it? He tried to get a grant from Columbus to help build it but was turned down. That is our tax money, and I don't think it should be used to build something for private enterprise. If the company is going to build, then it should use its own money or get financial backing or a loan.
Also, they want more stores downtown, so why don't they give up some of the junk in Town Square and put in more parking? Yes, I know they have the parking garage. I called the mayor about taking handicapped parking from in front of Veterans Memorial Civic Center, and he told me there was plenty of handicapped parking in the parking garage, but how far is it from the Civic Center?
Also, mayor and City Council should be ashamed to let the apartments in the Town Square get by with not fixing the elevators. What if there was a fire? They should help people instead of worrying about weeds in the city. Maybe if they paid more attention to what people need and helping them, they wouldn't have so many people leaving Lima.
