Shelters don’t allow dogs kept outdoors
Comments 0 | Recommend 0This is in response to the picture "On the lookout for a good home" in Friday's paper. If your readers are thinking of adopting an animal from Angels for Animals or the Allen County Humane Society, they should be aware of a policy at both.
Any dog must be kept in the house. My family was denied adopting a dog from the Allen County Humane Society because we were going to keep him outside (where he had access to a yard, shelter, food and water 24/7). However, none of this was taken into consideration. We were denied because we would be keeping the dog outside.
When the picture states the Angels for Animals shelter is filled to capacity, it makes me wonder: Does it need to be? How many animals have been placed in questionable homes because they were going to be house dogs?
Should this one-size-fits-all policy remain or do these agencies need to take a look at their policies?
